Muhammed Chaudhry is one of this year's 40 Under 40 honorees.
Chaudhry, 37, is a prominent voice for education in the Silicon Valley.
He started with the San Jose-based Silicon Valley Education Foundation in 2001 when it had three employees, a $150,000 budget, and a trailer for its headquarters. Since then, he has grown it into a 30-member staff with $5 million budget and $5 million in assets (and much nicer headquarters).
He's paired with major valley corporations including Cisco, Google, SAP and Hewlett-Packard, pushed math and science in under-represented school districts, and launched Teacher Innovation Grants to help teachers fund classroom projects.
He also started a website (Lessonopoly.org) for teachers to share materials and lesson plans with each other. It now has 19,000 registered users.
Outside the SVEF, Chaudhry is a board member of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, the California Consortium of Education Foundations, and Partners in School Innovation.
He is also a national vice president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Youth Association and helps sponsor community service projects and fundraising efforts.
